The republic of Burundi in East Africa is one of the smallest countries in Africa and one of the poorest in the world. Burundi is at the top of the current "Global Hunger Index".
The civil war, which lasted over ten years, completely annihilated the country's economy. Its infrastructure has been destroyed, and most of its people have lost hope. 59 percent of Burundians live below the poverty line. Unlike its neighbour Rwanda, Burundi does not currently receive any international aid, even though it faces the same problems after suffering a similar fate: hunger, the effects of violence, escape and persecution (refugees, child soldiers and war orphans) and poverty-related diseases such as tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS to an increasing extent.
burundikids e.V. wants to provide a home in Burundi for street kids and orphans of war and AIDS. This means providing somewhere to live as well as adequate food, clothing, basic medical care and education assistance.
